    नए फोटोग्राफरों के liye शुरुआत में काम करना बड़ा ही उत्साहपूर्ण होता है और इसी वजह से कई बार कुछ छोटी मोटी गलतियां वो नज़रअंदाज़ कर जाते हैं। किसी भी क्षेत्र में कदम रखने से पहले आपकी खुद की preparation होना बेहद ज़रूरी है। भारत में फोटोग्राफी एक ऐसा कला क्षेत्र है जहां अच्छी खासी प्रतियोगिता है और आपके पास गलतियाँ करने का स्कोप बहुत कम होता है। नए फोटोग्राफर्स कई बार कुछ ऐसी गलतियां कर जाते हैं जिससे आगे मुश्किलें खड़ी हो जाती हैं और तब आप ये सोचते हो कि काश किसी ने आपको पहले आगाह कर दिया होता।

    जैसे – 1. फोटोजर्नलिज्म(photojournalism)

    एक ऐसा करियर विकल्प है जहां फोटो जर्नलिस्ट पिक्चर खींचता है और नेशनल व इंटरनेशनल मीडिया हाउसेस में उसे सप्लाई किया जाता है। इस करियर में कुछ ऐसी क्षमताएं ज़रूरी हैं जब आपको विशिष्ठ व जानकारी युक्त शॉट्स खींचने पड़ते हैं जिनमें ऐतिहासिक स्थल, स्पोर्ट्स, राजनैतिक व कम्युनिटी इवेंट्स शामिल हैं जो अख़बार, जर्नल, मैगज़ीन या टेलीविज़न में उपयोग किये जाते हैं। फोटो जर्नलिस्ट को पत्रकारिता का सेंस होना ज़रूरी है जिससे वो सही इमेज खींच पाए।

    2. फीचर फ़ोटोग्राफ़ी (feature photography)-

    यहां इस करियर में आपको पिक्चर के माध्यम से पूरी स्टोरी समझानी होती है इसलिए किसी भी विषय के बारे में पूरी जानकारी और ज्ञान होना बेहद ज़रूरी है। अपनी व्यक्तिगत रूचि और पारंगतता के आधार पर अपना मूल विषय जैसे वाइल्ड लाइफ, स्पोर्ट्स, ट्रेवल, प्रकृति इत्यादि चुन सकते हो।

    3. पोर्ट्रेट फोटोग्राफी(portrait photography)-

    ज़्यादातर फोटोग्राफर्स वेडिंग इंडस्ट्री से जुड़े होते हैं और शादियों की गतिविधियों को कैप्चर करते हैं। इनको हर तरह के फोटोग्राफ खींचने का अनुभव होना चाहिए।

    4. एडवरटाइजिंग फोटोग्राफी(advertising photography)- इस क्षेत्र में जो

    फोटोग्राफर्स काम करते हैं वो एडवरटाइजिंग एजेंसी में क्रिएटिव व ग्राफ़िक डिपार्टमेंट्स के साथ जुड़ें होते हैं या तो फोटोग्राफी स्टूडियो में काम करते हैं। इनमें से कुछ लोग एक फ्रीलांसर के तौर पर भी काम भी करते हैं। ये क्षेत्र जितना अच्छा पैसा लाता है उतना ही इस क्षेत्र में कॉम्पीटीशन भी है, यहां सफलता आपकी मेहनत, क्षमता और शख्सियत के हिसाब से तय होती है।

    5. फैशन फोटोग्राफी(fashion photography)-

    ये क्षेत्र पिछले कुछ सालों में तेज़ी से बढ़ा है और ज़्यादातर यहां से जुड़े कार्य व संस्थाएं दिल्ली और मुंबई जैसे शहरों में सफलता से काम कर रही हैं। यहां फैशन फोटोग्राफी में संसाधन युक्त स्टूडियो में काम करा जाता है। फैशन उद्योग सबसे बड़ा उद्योग माना जाता है और इसकी पॉपुलैरिटी लगातार बनी रहने वाली है, fashion photography business हमेशा ही कमाई का अच्छा स्त्रोत रहने वाला है, जो भी इस विशेष क्षेत्र में जाते हैं उनके लिए यहां संभावनाएं कभी कम नहीं होने वाली हैं।

    एक बिज़नेस के तौर पर जब फोटोग्राफी को चुन रहे हैं तब कई बार आपको कुछ चुनौतियां आती ही हैं। कभी नए प्रोजेक्ट्स मिलने में, बिज़नेस जमाने में कभी फंडिंग इकट्ठी करने में। पर इन सब से निकलकर आपको अपनी कला पर ध्यान देना ज़रूरी है। कई बार Beginner photographer कुछ ऐसी गलतियां करते हैं जिनसे बचना चाहिए यकीनन अगर हम इन गलतियों को जान जाएँ और उनमें सुधार कर लें तो successful business की तरफ बढ़ा जा सकता है।

    Photography की शुरुआत में होने वाली गलतियों से बचें

    1.Missed Focus
    मिस्ड फोकस

    अगर आप ऑटो फोकस का उपयोग कर रहे हैं और कैमरा आपका फोकस पॉइंट निर्धारित कर रहा है तब ये बहुत आम है कि आप अपने इमेज फ्रेम के गलत हिस्से को फोकस करेंगे वो भी तब जब आप शैलो डेप्थ ऑफ़ फील्ड उपयोग कर रहे हों। तो फील्ड पर अपने फोकस का ज़रूर ध्यान रखें। फोकस पॉइंट कैमरे का स्पॉट ऑटो foucs फिक्स करे ऐसा अभ्यास में लाएं। सब्जेक्ट की आंखों पर आपका फोकस पॉइंट है ये तय करें जब आप पोर्ट्रेट या लोगों को फोकस कर रहे हैं।

    2.Shaky Frame
    हिलता हुआ फ्रेम

    अगर आपके फोटो ब्लर हैं या थोड़े अन शार्प हैं तब आपको ये देखने की ज़रूरत है कि आप कहीं बहुत धीमी शटर स्पीड तो नहीं रख रहे हैं। जब आपकी शटर स्पीड कम होगी तब आपका कैमरा हिलेगा और आपकी इमेज की शार्पनेस भी कम होगी। लेंस जो आप काम में ले रहे हैं उसमें फोकल लेंथ के बराबर आपकी शटर स्पीड हो इस बात का ध्यान रखें। अगर आप 50mm प्राइम लेंस ले रहे हैं वो भी एक फुल फ्रेम कैमरा पर तब कैमरा को हिलाये बिना सबसे कम शटर स्पीड होगी सेकंड के 1 /50 तक। ये 1 /85 तक हो जाएगी जब आप APS – C crop sensor camera पर काम कर रहे हों। ज़ूम लेंस का उपयोग करते समय फोकल लेंथ पर ज़रूर ध्यान दें जब आप ज़ूम इन और आउट कर रहे हों।

    3.Buried और Blown Exposure
    बरीड और ब्लोन एक्सपोज़र

    RAW में शूटिंग करते समय आपको बहुत सारा latitude मिलता है जिससे आप अपना एक्सपोज़र पोस्ट प्रोसेसिंग से पहले एडजस्ट कर सकते हो, हालांकि यहां हदें ज़रूर हैं। अगर आपका एक्सपोज़र बाहर गहरा है तब प्रोसेसिंग करते वक़्त, शैडो बहुत ग्रेनी और बेरंगी होंगी। अगर आपका एक्सपोज़र ब्राइट है तब हाइलाइट्स उड़ जाएंगे और डिटेल्स, प्रोसेसिंग करते समय आपको नहीं मिलेंगी। अगर हाई डायनामिक रेंज का सीन है जिसमें बहुत ब्राइट हाइलाइट्स और डार्क शैडो हैं तो सबसे अच्छा नियम ये है हाइलाइट्स की डिटेल्स को बचा कर रखने के लिए थोड़ा सा अंडर एक्सपोज़ करें और फिर पोस्ट प्रोसेसिंग के दौरान शैडो को ब्राइट करें।

    4. Awkward Pose
    अटपटा पोज़

    जिन लोगों के साथ आप शुरुआत में काम कर रहे हैं वो कोई प्रोफेशनल मॉडल नहीं होंगे तो वो उस समय आपके साथ पोज़ करते समय कम्फर्टेबल नहीं होंगे और ऐसे में आप ऑनलाइन पोज़ ढून्ढ सकते हो और उन्हें ट्राय कर सकते हो। सबसे अच्छा ये होगा कि आप बेसिक गाइड लाइन वाले पोज़ लें और फिर सब्जेक्ट को फ्री होने दें उनसे ऑय कांटेक्ट और फ्रेंडली व्यवहार कर के उन्हें माहौल में आरामदायक होने दें।

    तो ये कुछ ऐसी गलतियां हैं या यूं कह लें कुछ General Mistakes हैं जो ज्यादातर नए फोटोग्राफर्स करते हैं इनको सुधार लेने से आपकी आगे की राह आसान हो जाती है। उम्मीद है ये आपके करियर में आपको काम आएंगी और लगातार अभ्यास से आप अपनी कला को दिन प्रतिदिन निखार सकते हो और अच्छा काम उठा सकते हो। बस इतना ज़रूर याद रखें हर कला निरंतर upgradation मांगती है जो तब ही संभव है जब आप अपने आस पास एक्स्प्लोर करते रहेंगे क्यूंकि कुछ न कुछ नया आत्मसात करना ही एक कलाकार का लक्ष्य होना चाहिए।

    How to Stay Focused on Your Career Goals When Life Gets Stressful

    If you’re feeling distracted and losing focus right now, you’re not alone.

    There’s plenty of fear out there with economic uncertainty and geopolitical conflicts to worry about, not to mention things closer to home like budget cuts, hiring freezes and mortgage rates going up.

    But fear – especially about things beyond your control – drains your energy. Worse yet, it distracts you from the important goals that deserve your focus.

    When the world feels uncertain and tense, you don’t have to lose focus

    With all the negative news, it’s natural to want to keep your head down, play it safe and put your bigger goals aside to preserve what you have. But don’t do it!

    Instead, here are three things you can do to stay focused on your goals and not get distracted by the fear and tension around you. Best of all, you can do these on your own, right now, without anyone’s permission and no matter what else is happening.

    1. Understand the difference between your thoughts and your attention

    Your thoughts are things, like the furniture in a room. Thoughts naturally pop into your mind, but they aren’t who you are. You’re the one observing the thoughts. That’s why they say you can't help the first thought that comes into your mind, but as the saying goes, you can help what you do with it.

    Attention is different. It’s not a thing. Attention is the part of you that is aware of your thoughts. And you can point your attention to whichever thoughts and feelings you want.

    So make sure you choose what you pay attention to wisely. When the world provides negative distractions, it’s time to focus your precious attention on the thoughts, situations and ideas that serve you well.

    What will you choose to pay attention to?

    2. Stop doing the things that bring you down

    Managing your energy is critical to your success in your career and life. And one of the things that puts your goals at risk are the habits and distractions that drain your energy and leave you farther away from achieving what you want.

    So identify the things you do that trigger you to think and behave in a way that’s unhelpful, or even trigger you to be at your worst. Especially the things you find hard to resist doing. These are candidates for what to stop doing.

    For me, the thing I’ve decided to stop doing is mindlessly “doom scrolling” through my news feed. The more I read, the more depressed I feel. Then suddenly, half an hour has gone by, and I’m no closer to my goals but feel worse about myself.

    What’s your equivalent to my “doom scrolling” that you’ll stop doing?

    3. Start doing more of the things that lift you up

    A great way to boost your positive energy is to replace your “doom scrolling” equivalent with something that lifts you up instead. It can be something simple as long as it’s something you enjoy and find energizing.

    For me, what I find really uplifting are two things. One is going to the gym. It’s my “happy place” so I go on a regular basis. For you, it might be something completely different, like painting, playing a musical instrument, or taking your dog for a walk.

    The other thing that’s been lifting me up lately is listening to an audiobook called The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer. This is my third round listening to this audiobook! When I need a good dose of uplifting, I pop in my earbuds and listen to whatever chapter I happen to be on. It helps calm me down and help me stay focused.

    What’s uplifting to you that you can start doing now?

    Focus on what will make your life and career better

    In this time of unease and uncertainty, it’s important to stay focused on the goals and aspirations that matter most for you.

    Don't let the negativity from other people, the news, or anywhere else, bring you down. Instead, double down on what brings you positive energy so you can stay focused.

    And as you do, remember these three steps:

    • Understand the difference between your thoughts and attention – focus your attention on the positive.
    • Stop doing the things that bring you down – don’t let your equivalent of “doom scrolling” make you lose focus on what matters most.
    • Start doing the things that lift you up – the positive energy will help you stay focused.

    Whether or not you run a successful company depends mainly on the people working there. Your company will likely thrive if you have a tight-knit group of hardworking professionals. But, if your employees constantly leave your company, and you need to hire others to replace them, you can hardly hope to build reliable teams. Therefore, what you need to focus on is reducing employee turnover by giving your employees clear incentives to stay. Well, we’re here to show you how.

    Reducing employee turnover

    If you have a high employee turnover rate, there must be a reason behind it. Your employees might harbor a toxic work environment without you being aware. Or, your competitors might offer benefits that never crossed your mind. Perhaps you simply might not give your employees a clear reason to stay. Whatever the case may be, it is paramount that you outline what the problem is. A high employee turnover is always a bad sign, and you want to do everything in your power to lower it as much as possible.

    What we will outline now are the six tried and proper ways of reducing employee turnover. It would be best if you didn’t try to implement them all at once, as doing so will likely cause too much disruption in your company. Instead, try to outline the root causes of your high employee turnover and see which solution will address them best. With luck, one or two of these solutions will cause a significant change in employee turnover.

    Find the right people

    Let’s start off with the obvious. Having the right people working for you is the first step. If you don’t employ the right people for your company, you will not only suffer due to their poor performance but also likely drive away the people that would be suitable. Therefore, above all else, value the quality of the people you hire. Take close note of their temperament, character, and work ethics. You’d be surprised at how long company owners can be oblivious to how productive (or unproductive) their employees can be. And keep in mind that one bad apple can ruin the entire basket. So, before anything else, ensure that you are entirely aware of what your employees are like and that you are ignoring the obvious flaws.

    Work on retention from the get-go

    Another thing to note, especially if you are just starting your company, is that you need to work on worker retention from the get-go. If you’ve already started your company, and haven’t bothered much about worker retention, know it is better late than never. But, the general rule of thumb is that the sooner you start worrying about whether your employees will stay with you, the sooner you will take measures to keep them around.

    Know that it is much easier to build your company with the reputation of low employee turnover than combat having a big one. This is because decent employees will see your substantial employee turnover and avoid applying for your company if possible. And if you need to let go of certain employees, it will be much easier to do so if they haven’t already worked for you for years.

    Communicate with employees

    The best way to learn what will keep your employees around is to talk to them. More often than not, it is the lack of communication that causes them to leave and leaves the bosses stumped. So, to help mitigate this, try to establish a line of communication with your employees where they feel that their opinions matter and that they won’t be punished for them. Know that not all employees are accustomed or even courageous enough to say what bothers them. But also know that what bothers them will cause them to leave. Especially if they are skillful enough to have other options. Listen to what they say about company procedures and work in general. You can use this feedback to improve the quality of their workday significantly.

    Another important aspect of communication is not to keep your employees in the dark. Always make sure that they are thoroughly familiar with how the company is doing and whether you plan to make any changes. So, if you plan to relocate your company, let them know in advance. Preparing employees for a move is equally essential as preparing for the move itself. If you plan to make company-wide changes to improve worker retention, also let them know in advance. Ideally, they will have both the motivation and the ideas to help you out. And if not, at least they will feel appreciated.

    Outline a clear career path

    Assume that each of your employees wants to advance. From the newcomers to your company to the people that worked there for years. Everyone wants to know that their careers will advance if they put in the time and effort. A typical moment where driven employees seek other employment is once they feel they’ve reached a dead end in your company. So, to avoid this makes sure that you outline clear career paths. You want to avoid any type of confusion and vagueness regarding your employees’ future. Instead, outline how their careers can improve and what benefits those improvement stands to bring.

    Help your employees improve

    The last way of reducing employee turnover is to help your employees improve. It would help if you made them feel you value their hard work and willingness to improve. Furthermore, you need to provide them with tools for improvement and encourage them to better themselves. 

    You’d be surprised at how grateful people are to those that help them better themselves. And how willing they are to stay loyal to those that believed in them. So, always try to give your employees ways to improve their skills, and don’t shy away from rewarding them once they do.

    Dr Malaika Edwards is a Human Resources Pracademic, with over 20 years of experience in Human Resources.     An advocate will be more likely to think of ways to help you along your search.
